Q&A with Tyler Lessard, VP Marketing, Vidyard

MEDIA 7 | April 3, 2019

Tyler Lessard, VP Marketing of Vidyard has been recently named as an Epic Marketer by Marketo. In this interesting Q&A, Tyler takes us through his marketing journey and shares with us the value of technology in an era where videos are not just visually replenishing, but are also empowering the customer service teams in more ways than one.

MEDIA 7: What were you doing prior to your current position?
TYLER LESSARD:
Prior to joining Vidyard as VP Marketing, I spent 10 years at BlackBerry, building out their developer relations program and global partner community. It was an incredible opportunity to learn the importance of relationship building and strong storytelling on a global scale, and the need to simplify how we articulate and position the value of technology for line-of-business customers.

M7: What are the changes that video hosting and management have undergone over the past couple of years at Vidyard?
TL:
In recent years we’ve seen the conversation with businesses change from “why should I invest in video” to “how do I unlock the power of video across my marketing, sales and customer service teams”. This has driven us to focus on delivering new solutions through the lenses of these key audiences and what they are really trying to achieve.

We’re now helping marketing teams increase audience engagement with personalized and interactive video experiences, boost conversion rates on digital channels with optimized video experiences within their websites and email marketing, and accelerate deal cycles using video engagement data within their marketing automation platforms to qualify prospects. We’re helping sales development reps stand out and increase their response rates using personalized video messages sent via our Vidyard GoVideo app. And we’re helping customer service teams reduce call volumes and increase customer satisfaction with video-based knowledge articles embedded within customer communities. It’s all about helping businesses leverage video in new ways to improve the customer experience and generate more revenue.

"We always need to be searching for that next idea, that next channel, and that next message that will help us stay ahead of the market and build trust with our audiences."

M7: What’s top of the list for what Vidyard wants to achieve this year?
TL:
A big priority for Vidyard is to make it as easy as possible for marketing, sales and customer service teams to create, access, share and track rich video content from within the applications and workflows they already use today. We’re now doing this through integrations with key platforms such as Salesforce, Marketo, HubSpot, SalesLoft, Outreach, InsideSales.com, Zendesk and others. In 2019 we’re looking to expand this community further to enable any business professional to embrace video as a better way to communicate and deliver information.

"The most important thing for today’s marketer is to never stand still."

M7: In what way will Vidyard’s collaboration with SmartBug Media change the video experience for HubSpot users worldwide?
TL:
In 2018, Vidyard launched a strategic partnership with HubSpot to power their new HubSpot Video solution for marketing, sales and customer service. Now that the solution is available to HubSpot customers, partners like SmartBug Media are critical to helping them learn how to use video effectively and how to take advantage of these new native tools. From how they create video content, to how they optimize them for conversion, to how they track video engagement data within HubSpot CRM, partners like SmartBug Media will help customers make video an integrated part of their own marketing, sales and customer service processes.

"Vidyard delivers hyper-personalized experiences, right down to personalizing the content itself, to stand out from the other noise in the market."

M7: You have been named as an Epic Marketer by Marketo last month. That’s indeed a great achievement, Tyler. What efforts do you take to hone your marketing skills?
TL:
The most important thing for today’s marketer is to never stand still. It’s easy to get caught up in “what has worked before” and “this is how we do it”, but we always need to be searching for that next idea, that next channel, and that next message that will help us stay ahead of the market and build trust with our audiences. I’ve embraced video myself as a content medium to share ideas and connect with customers. We deliver hyper-personalized experiences, right down to personalizing the content itself, to stand out from the other noise in the market. And we stay close to the latest trends and technologies to understand how we can stay one step ahead.

Sri leads the Procurement Strategy function for Schneider Electric globally with responsibilities for Supply Base Management, Relationship Programs, Category Strategy and Business Transformation initiatives. MEDIA 7: What do you look forward to most when you get up in the morning? SRI GOPINATH: I look forward to making a difference – I have been very fortunate to be able to have gained professional experiences internationally, in many diverse industries and create value for my employers and customers. As part of the procurement and supply chain community, our business and macroeconomic environment is always changing. It greatly motivates me to think about how strategies can be translated into meaningful actions to create value for our customers and stakeholders. No two days are the same, and this makes me excited to contemplate new possibilities each day. Further, I enjoy interacting with talented people in procurement and supply chain and contributing to their career aspirations and development.  I never run out of opportunities! M7: Could you tell me a little about yourself and what led you to your position as Procurement Strategy Director at Schneider Electric? SG: It would be helpful if I connected my career evolution to how I came to Schneider Electric. I came here 5 years ago after gaining valuable experience in leading companies like Nissan Motor Company, Motorola and in management consulting. By working with many talented and senior executives from many leading companies, I learned about best practices and how to understand the CEO perspective early in my career. I then discovered my passion – how to enable boardroom strategies and to be able to make it real and achieve tangible results. Schneider Electric offered me the opportunity to apply my skills in a global organization, interact with people from many countries while driving strategic transformation and change. Most importantly I really connected with the people who share my passion and desire for results. As a case in point, Schneider Electric was ranked #34 in Gartner’s Annual Supply Chain ranking in 2015 and in 2020 we have achieved the #4 position! That is an amazing accomplishment in such a short period of time, and it is rewarding for me to have contributed to that effort. ...

Amazon to Bring Low Carbon Electrofuels to its Trucking Fleet

Amazon | September 21, 2022

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) has signed an agreement with renewable fuels technology company Infinium to begin powering Amazon’s transportation fleet with ultra-low carbon electrofuels beginning in 2023. Infinium is expected to initially supply enough electrofuels, which are a fossil-based fuel alternative created with carbon waste and renewable power, to begin powering Amazon trucks in lieu of diesel fuel for approximately 5 million miles of travel per year. The agreement is another step forward in Amazon’s commitment to transition its transportation network away from fossil fuels and deliver packages to customers in more sustainable ways. Amazon plans to initially use the electrofuels in trucks in its middle mile fleet in Southern California, where the trucks are expected to help serve millions of customers. Amazon’s middle mile fleet is responsible for moving customer orders from its vendors and fulfillment centers to its network of sortation and delivery stations. According to the United Nations, the transportation sector currently accounts for approximately 25% of all carbon emissions globally, and Infinium is working to change that by developing ultra-low carbon fuels that can easily be used to power cargo trucks, airplanes, and marine freight without engine modifications. To start, Infinium plans to build one of the world’s first electrofuels-production facilities in Texas. The facility will use renewable-power-generated green hydrogen and approximately 18,000 tons of recycled carbon waste per year—which would otherwise be released into the atmosphere—to create the electrofuels. Amazon previously invested in Infinium through The Climate Pledge Fund, Amazon’s $2 billion venture investment program that specifically invests in companies building technologies, products, and services that can help Amazon and others accelerate the path toward net-zero carbon future. Amazon has announced investments in a total of 18 companies through The Climate Pledge Fund to date. Infinium’s electrofuels can help Amazon reduce carbon emissions across our transportation fleet, which is important to both us and our customers, and will help us move closer to our goal of net-zero carbon by 2040,” said Kara Hurst, vice president of Worldwide Sustainability at Amazon. “We’ve supported Infinium’s technology through our Climate Pledge Fund, and it’s exciting to see our investment turning into usable fuel that will help us, and others across the industry, decarbonize transportation in the long run. “Our agreement with Amazon to provide Infinium electrofuels for use in the company’s transportation network is a significant moment for all of us, We’ve been developing this technology for the better part of a decade, and we expect our electrofuels to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by approximately 95 percent over traditional fossil fuels. We’re thrilled to have the first fleet of Amazon trucks powered by electrofuels starting next year, which will mark the beginning of a major shift for the entire transportation sector.” -Infinium CEO Robert Schuetzle Amazon is committed to reaching net-zero carbon by 2040 as part of its commitment to The Climate Pledge, and will continue to take real business action to decarbonize its operations. Infinium is an example of how Amazon invested in new climate innovation, and the company will soon leverage its technology to help it reduce carbon emissions. In addition to partnering with Infinium, Amazon has taken other significant steps toward net-zero carbon: Amazon signed an agreement with Plug Power to supply 10,950 tons per year of green hydrogen for its transportation and building operations starting in 2025. Amazon will start to use green hydrogen to replace grey hydrogen, diesel, and other fossil fuels as it works to decarbonize its operations, and this green hydrogen supply contract will provide enough annual power for 30,000 forklifts or 800 heavy-duty trucks used in long-haul transportation. Through The Climate Pledge Fund, Amazon invested in Electric Hydrogen and Sunfire, two of the most promising developers of electrolyzers, a key technology that makes emissions-free green hydrogen for use in heavy duty transportation. Amazon has also ordered 100,000 electric delivery vehicles from Rivian, marking the largest order ever of electric delivery vehicles. Amazon’s custom electric delivery vehicles from Rivian started to hit the road this summer in the U.S., with thousands expected to be making deliveries in more than 100 major U.S. cities by the end of this year. Learn more about Amazon’s sustainability efforts. About Amazon Amazon is guided by four principles: customer obsession rather than competitor focus, passion for invention, commitment to operational excellence, and long-term thinking. Amazon strives to be Earth’s Most Customer-Centric Company, Earth’s Best Employer, and Earth’s Safest Place to Work. Customer reviews, 1-Click shopping, personalized recommendations, Prime, Fulfillment by Amazon, AWS, Kindle Direct Publishing, Kindle, Career Choice, Fire tablets, Fire TV, Amazon Echo, Alexa, Just Walk Out technology, Amazon Studios, and The Climate Pledge are some of the things pioneered by Amazon.
