10 PRINCIPLES TO DECARBONISE THE OSV INDUSTRY

June 21, 2022

10 PRINCIPLES TO DECARBONISE
The shipping industry as a whole accounts for 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Decarbonising
the maritime industry in line with the Paris Agreement is essential to fighting climate change, and
key to facilitating the decarbonisation of many other industries. This requires systemic industrywide change, the complexity of which cannot be understated.
Many aspects of the transition to zero-carbon shipping are necessarily long-term endeavours, such
as the development of green technology for a new generation of vessels. However, certain shortterm changes can be implemented to help accelerate this transition over the coming decade, until
such technological solutions have matured.

SUSTAINABILITY WHITEPAPER LNG AS MARINE FUEL

whitePaper | July 29, 2022

The adoption of the “Initial International Maritime Organization (IMO) Strategy on Reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions from Ships” by IMO Resolution MEPC.304(72) in April 2018 demonstrates IMO’s commitment to support the Paris Agreement. The IMO strategy includes initial targets to reduce (as compared to 2008 levels) the average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per “transport work” by at least 40 percent by 2030, aiming to pursue 70 percent reduction by 2050; and an ambition to reduce the total annual GHG emissions from shipping by at least 50 percent by 2050. Technical approaches, operational approaches and alternative fuels may be used to achieve these goals.

Transportation & Logistics: The Way Forward

whitePaper | February 1, 2022

It’s probably too strong to say the logo on the side of the truck is now more important than the logo on the side of the box. But it’s certainly not overstating things to say that consumers demand fast, reliable, free (in many cases) shipping, with easily accessible updates. In one 2021 survey, 47% of consumers said they would consider abandoning a retailer after a single bad shipping experience.

How Zero Trust Protects a Vulnerable Supply Chain

whitePaper | November 14, 2022

The Industrial Internet of Things is shaking up the world of manufacturing and all of its supply chains. Thanks to IoT devices and the steady rollout of 5G connectivity, companies have an unprecedented look into the health of the shop floor, can monitor for shipping-disruptive weather conditions, and can plan maintenance to ensure the least amount of downtime. These sensors are an absolute revolution, but there’s a dark side to the sensors as well. Manufacturers must consider new cybersecurity concerns as each new IoT device represents a potential weak point in the company’s network. Each device presents a tempting target for hackers who are looking to break into the network, but focusing on the individual devices is the wrong answer to the problem. The solution should be a secure network using a zero-trust model.

Scudo: A Proposal for Resolving Software Supply Chain Insecurities in Vehicles

whitePaper | July 15, 2022

For many years supply chain security appears to have been something of a second-tier priority for both software developers and the companies that rely upon their product. It was more common to focus attention on what happens after the software is built, through code reviews, penetration testing, and the development and implementation of patches and updates. This type of approach overlooks the very real possibility that, even with all the efforts mentioned above, end users still have no guarantee they are actually installing the application originally conceived as a code base. Over time, this somewhat myopic vision has given malicious actors multiple opportunities to insert malware or damage images. But, recent events have rapidly forced the industry to take a wider perspective on how software security is defined.

2022 & Beyond: Continued Challenges in the Automotive Supply Chain

whitePaper | February 28, 2022

While our inboxes are flooded on a daily basis with news about how the pandemic has created supply chain and commodities issues, global organizations must think about more than just near-term issues. Although the pandemic will recede, long-term factors like geo-politics, evolving governance standards, changes in regulations, environmental and tax laws, and implementation of new trade agreements will force a reorientation of global supply chains. Gone are the days where “lean” metrics were the sole drivers of supply chains, as a multitude of factors must be considered moving into the future.
