Sixfold Introduces Data Sharing Initiative to Empower Carriers in the New Era of Supply Chain Openness

Sixfold, Europe's leading real-time transportation visibility platform has launched a data-sharing campaign aimed at a new era of openness, accessibility, and transparency in the supply chain and logistics sectors. The Open Visibility Data Exchange establishes a new data-sharing standard, allowing carriers and logistics service providers (LSPs) to take ownership of their real-time visibility data and optimize value for stakeholders in the supply chain.

Accurate shipping ETAs have quickly become an industry norm in transportation logistics, and most carriers are now able to provide them automatically via visibility service providers. However, a lack of consistency has only served to suppress, if not entirely obstruct, the exchange of information between these competing providers.

Sixfold's new Open Visibility Data API eliminates these barriers by allowing carriers and LSPs to quickly exchange visibility data with shippers or goods recipients – regardless of the Transport Management System (TMS) stakeholders use. The API provides allowed stakeholders with easy access to key visibility data via individual API keys, allowing access to be separated by each customer. This places the power back in the hands of carriers, allowing them full authority over providing real-time transport information and alerts to their shippers.

As a consequence, visibility data can be freely shared between various transport networks without jeopardizing carriers' high-value data. Sixfold's intelligent geofencing algorithms guarantee that customers only have access to data relating to their ongoing shipments until access is granted.

“We are confident that visibility data can be freely exchanged to increase the benefit for all supply chain participants. However, having data to flow horizontally between competing parties has historically been a problem for the industry,” said Sixfold executive director Jesper Bennike. “Our new API eliminates the barriers that have long hampered global supply chains, making it simple for carriers to exchange data outside of our platform.” The time has come for an open network structure that allows carriers to exchange shipping data with whoever they want, whenever they want, without intervention from their visibility partner.”

"Fragmentation and data silos are significant challenges for every sector, but particularly one like ours, which relies so heavily on access to real-time insights when it comes to temperature-controlled transports," said Stefan Goedde, at STI Freight Management. “We have no doubt that making real-time data more accessible would have a significant effect on how carriers work. As a result, we applaud Sixfold's effort, which will continue to propel the industry forward at a moment when data visibility is more critical than ever, allowing us to go the extra mile in terms of quality.”
