Sustainable ocean freight gains momentum as Kuehne + Nagel, 7 others forgo Arctic shipping

Supply Chain Dive | January 14, 2020

Eight companies signed the Ocean Conservancy's Arctic Shipping Pledge last week, promising to forgo shipping goods via the Northern Sea Route (NSR) out of concern for the environment. The new signatories are Allbirds, Artizia, Bureo, Hudson Shipping Lines, International Direct Packaging, Kuehne + Nagel, Puma and Ralph Lauren. They join ocean carriers including CMA CGM, Evergreen, Hapag-Lloyd and MSC; and retailers including Asos, H&M and Nike that signed on shortly after the pledge launched in 2019. The NSR between Europe and Asia is becoming increasingly navigable as polar ice melts due to climate change. Using the "short cut" can cut transit time by nearly 40% compared to traditional routes such as the Suez Canal.

Roambee's AI-Powered Supply Chain Visibility Platform Revolutionizes the Food Industry, Enhancing Food Safety, Traceability, and Quality

prnewswire | August 16, 2023

Roambee, the global real-time supply chain visibility and intelligence provider, is at the forefront of the food industry revolution with its Supply Chain Intelligence Platform. Built on highly accurate sensor data analytics and paired with AI-powered prediction and decision support, Roambee's technology enables companies to predict quality compliance of shipments many days before arrival at distribution centers or at stores, ensuring transparency & efficiency from farm to fork. Roambee's AI-Powered Supply Chain Intelligence Platform for food cold chains enabled a remarkable transformation for one of the world's largest chocolatiers. Within just 12 months, their cold chain compliance skyrocketed 1.5 times, from 59% to more than 85%. This achievement was made possible by analyzing real-time conditions both inside and outside reefer containers across various lanes throughout the year. Among 93 lanes, Roambee's AI utilized sensor input, including location, temperature, humidity, and more, to identify the top 20 lanes responsible for over 60% of temperature and humidity breaches. By prioritizing investment on premium transport models for these 20 lanes instead of all, the company saved millions of dollars. Despite global supply chain disruptions in recent years, this chocolatier experienced its highest revenue growth in its 100-year history. The company identified new ways to create a more resilient supply chain that ensure availability of top-quality product on shelf. Using first-hand sensor driven signals the company was able to enhance its ability to deliver 26 million pounds of candy every year without compromising the quality of each delectable treat, detect anomalies in its supply chain operations and better forecast cold chain compliance by lane, by transport partner and season. "Roambee's cutting-edge technology recognizes the importance of maintaining optimal conditions during the transportation of food and beverages. Beyond the time-sensitive nature of these shipments, the susceptibility to contamination and the need for uncompromised quality are paramount. By providing real-time visibility and intelligent insights into the location and condition of food, Roambee not only enhances quality of delivery in the food industry, but also facilitates traceability, ensuring the origin of the product can be easily determined. Moreover, it fortifies food safety measures, promotes sustainability, and, most importantly, elevates the overall quality of food products," said Sanjay Sharma, CEO of Roambee. With the increasing complexity and unpredictability of global supply chains, more food producers and suppliers are harnessing AI data to move to an intelligent supply chain to predict fluctuations in supply and demand, and make more effective real-time decisions. Roambee is at the center of this paradigm shift with its AI-powered platform, built on invaluable first-hand information sourced from IoT sensors. Leveraging this wealth of data, Roambee's platform can make KPI predictions that are 100 times more accurate than existing AI solutions in supply chain. AFS Logistics announces its selection to the 2023 Inc. 5000 list, which recognizes AFS as one of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies. The recognition is the company’s fourth appearance on the list, cementing a pattern of strong growth and an entrepreneurial spirit shared by fellow previous honorees, including Zappos.com, Zipcar, Pandora and 7-Eleven. The list was compiled based on data representing overall revenue growth for the three-year period between 2019 and 2022. The company’s growth during this time was driven by an infusion of new customers and acquisitions, including Berman Blake Associates, Refund Logistics, Software Solutions Unlimited, Inc., WCA Logistics and DTA Services, Ltd. The most recent acquisition, of DTA, created the new largest freight audit and payment company in Canada. AFS currently manages more than $11 billion in annual freight spend across modes, including less-than-truckload (LTL), parcel and truckload for more than 1,800 customers. “The logistics industry is a complex environment, our growth is a testament to the fact that customers need help navigating this complex environment," says Tom Nightingale, CEO of AFS. “Our continued rapid growth and selection to the Inc. 5000 are testimony to the entire AFS team and a collective ability to problem solve, innovate and see possibility in the midst of significant challenges. To be able to continue to grow at this rate after 41 years is a credit to our founder, Brian Barker, and his vision.” Since the company’s inception in 1982, AFS has grown from a single location in Shreveport, Louisiana to over 380 teammates across eight locations in North America. Today, the company manages over $11 billion in freight spend and helps customers generate more than $180 million in annual transportation savings. "We are truly honored and excited to be back on the Inc. 5000 list,” says Brian J. Barker, Founder and Chairman of AFS. “These last few years have been uniquely challenging for every industry but especially for transportation and logistics. To be named to this list a true testament to the team we've assembled and the loyal customers we serve." About the Inc. 5000 list In 1982, Inc. magazine introduced the Inc. 500 list of the fastest-growing privately held companies in the United States. Since then, this prestigious list of the nation's most successful private companies has become the hallmark of entrepreneurial success and the place where future household names first make their mark. In 2007, the Inc. 500 list expanded to the Inc. 5000, giving readers a deeper, richer understanding of the entrepreneurial landscape and capturing a broader spectrum of success. Overhaul Announces Intelligence as a Service to Enhance Supply Chain Visibility and Risk Insights

prnewswire | July 27, 2023

Overhaul, a software-based supply-chain visibility, risk, compliance, and insurance solution for the world's leading brands, today announced the launch of its Intelligence as a Service offering. With three levels of actionable insights right down to an individual shipment in transit, Intelligence as a Service provides timely, accurate cargo security intelligence to protect cargo and stay ahead of threats. Intelligence as a Service is the culmination of Overhaul's law enforcement connections, global data sources, and team expertise. The product offers everything from weekly intelligence notes and bulletins to local crime risk assessments and law enforcement response. "Overhaul's data and connections run deep, and it just made sense to bring together our resources to better support our customers," said Barry Conlon, CEO and Founder of Overhaul. "We're a differentiator in the space, and no one else has this level of insight, both in terms of global reach and granularity. Intelligence as a Service is set to make it easier for our customers to identify and manage risk anywhere and at any time." "Intelligence as a Service is offering wider visibility into global patterns and pinpoint visibility into company-specific risks," said Joe Ryan, Vice President of Intelligence and Response at Overhaul. "This makes it easier for companies to understand the risks involved in where they're shipping, as well as how they're shipping. They can then take actions to mitigate risks involving driver noncompliance, dangerous routes, or whatever else they may see." Overhaul's intelligence isn't only useful for handling risk; it can also keep customers compliant with government programs such as Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) and Authorised Economic Operator (AEO). Additionally, Overhaul's data extends across the globe, providing real-time insights into countries such as Brazil and Mexico. As nearshoring continues to play a popular role in supply chain operations, this information will be especially valuable. "Security is just the first part of our intelligence," said Ronald Greene, Senior Vice President at Overhaul. "An understanding of threats and how to solve them leads to new opportunities. When you avoid delays, you have more time to spend on other business needs. When you prevent a theft, you prevent the costs associated with that theft, and that money can go toward its intended purpose. With Intelligence as a Service, we're making business as usual the norm by highlighting abnormalities and how to solve them." Already, Overhaul has shared several of its Intelligence as a Service offerings with the public, including its Mexico and Brazil cargo theft reports. These reports were made possible by Overhaul's recent acquisition of SensiGuard, which consequently made Overhaul the world's largest in-transit supply chain cargo security provider. About Overhaul Founded in 2016 and with offices around the world, Overhaulis the only device-agnostic supply chain visibility and risk management software company.
