Transport & Logistics Sector Finds IIoT a Key to Improving Sustainability

Organizations in the transport and logistics sector are faced with the challenge of reducing their impact on the environment and hearing to stricter government regulations while at the same time needing to transport increasing quantities of goods and people.  increasingly adopting industrial Internet of Things technology to improve the environmental sustainability of their operations, new research from mobile satellite communications company Inmarsat shows. The research finds that nearly two-thirds of transport organizations are pursuing industrial IoT  (IIoT) to improve their environmental footprint. The biggest drivers of the adoption of IIoT are monitoring environmental conditions like emissions and air quality and improving resource efficiency, at 61% and 54% respectively. Additionally, organizations in the transport and logistics sector that are using IIoT are reaching their sustainability objectives: the research found that 75% of respondents with fully deployed or trial-stage IIoT solutions are achieving improvements in their sustainability efforts.
