The European Union (EU) conflict minerals regulation (EU 2017/821)1 was passed into law on May 17, 2017. This regulation was largely the result of campaigning by non-governmental organizations against the systematic use of forced labour, torture and terrorism to induce indigenous populations to engage in dangerous mineral extraction operations.
