DHL acquires Italian logistics provider MIT Safetrans

DHL Supply Chain has acquired Italian logistics provider MIT Safetrans for an undisclosed sum.Founded in 1983, MIT provides transport and logistics services to its customers in different sectors such as hi-tech, pharmaceuticals, banking and vending.With around 20 logistics centers, the company offers specialized pre and post-delivery equipment services ranging from commissioning magnetic resonance machines to ATMs.The firm also offers biolab services for the sanitation of medicinal products, as well as distributes life-saving products such as radiopharmaceuticals.The acquisition will expand DHL Supply Chain Italy’s operations in the technological, as well as hi-tech and life sciences and healthcare sectors.With the latest deal, DHL Supply Chain Italy will have around 60 facilities and about 800 employees in Italy.DHL said that it is the second purchase of similar type in Italy after acquiring Eurodifarm in 2011.DHL Supply Chain Italy president and CEO Eddy De Vita said: "The acquisition's strategic value is twofold for us: on the one hand it allows us to extend our services, competences and targets.
