Cargo rush, bunker prices push Australia-China Capesize rate over $4/wmt
Rising bunker prices, a rally in the freight derivative market combined with a flurry of cargoes caused freight rates in the key Port Hedland to Qingdao iron ore route to push back above $4/wmt Monday.A rush to cover cargoes before the start of the Singapore SGX Iron Ore week by participants boosted trading, which in turn meant ship-owners upping the ante and raising their offers.Platts assessed the delivered 380 CST bunker price in Singapore at $232.5/0mt, the highest since November 11, 2015.After the rate fell below $4/wmt on May 4, in eight trading days the Capesize rates have recovered to trade above that mark.
