New transportation services link rural residents to waiting jobs

July 22, 2019 / Sheridan Hendrix

EmpowerBus — a Columbus-based company that provides transportation for low-income and disadvantaged riders to and from work, health care and other services — picks up employees from their Licking County homes and drives them to manufacturing jobs in the western part of the county. The partnership, which began in November 2018, aims to connect people to higher-paying jobs who might not seek them out because of unreliable transportation, said Angela Carnahan, workforce development administrator with Licking County Job & Family Services. “It’s all about giving people an opportunity to rise above poverty and increase their self-sufficiency,” Carnahan said.
