Transportation is a major source of pollutants in many urban areas. Currently in Beijing, on-road vehicles account for a significant percentage gaseous pollutants (CO, HC, NOX), particulate matter and black carbon. Back carbon, as one of the main components of PM emissions, not only threaten public health, degrade air quality, but also contribute significantly to climate change as a short-lived climate pollutant. To reduce the environmental impact, Beijing has introduced a wide variety of emission control programs to reduce emissions from on-road fleet.
