The rapid growth of e-commerce continues to create new challenges for retailers as they plan distribution strategies. One of those challenges is managing the high volume of returns. One in three shoppers returns items, and more than half read a company’s returns policy before making a purchase. Retailers lose $50 billion annually due to inefficiencies in processing returns, and distribution centers handling returns need 15% to 20% more space than a traditional facility.
Transportation has always been the cornerstone of the supply chain and arguably its most targeted area when something goes wrong with a shipment. Why is my package late? What is my load’s current location? What is the ETA for my order? These are the daily questions that come from warehouses, distribution centers, and their end consumers – and they’re being asked now more than ever. Answering these questions requires holistic visibility into your supply chain that can only be achieved with the right mix of transportation technology and data management.

With the boom in e-commerce, the global logistic market is getting more complex. This is driving the industry to automate operations and digitally transform in order to meet the delivery demands of customers. The global enterprise business in first-, second- and third-party logistics has a unique opportunity to deploy private wireless networks for seamless indoor and outdoor low latency connectivity by leveraging all available spectrum assets. This will help with automated stored and retrieval systems, industrial IoT sensors, robotic process automation, drone industrial inspection and autonomous equipment or vehicles.

Around 90 % of the world’s goods are currently transported by ships causing nearly 3 % of total global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. This makes it one of the largest polluters in the transport industry, with international merchant ships and large freighters responsible for the lion’s share of these emissions. As a result of the impending climate crisis and the need to reduce global emissions, various organizations, including shipping companies themselves as well as governments, aim to achieve carbon-neutral water transport in the coming years.
